Earthquakes

Earthquakes occur frequently in Japan. You should be prepared as one cannot predict when an earthquake will occur.

Check where the escape shelters are located near your house and workplace.

1. Seek shelter under sturdy desks to protect yourself from the falling objects.
2. Turn off stoves and close gas valves.
3. Put out fire immediately if break out.
4. Do not panic and run out side. You might get hurt by falling objects.
5. When escaping to the shelters　such as schools or parks, keep away from walls, cliff and riverbanks.
6. In case of aftershock, confirm the safety of your surroundings. Stay away from dangerous areas.
7. If escape become necessary, do not use your car.
8. If an earthquake occurs while driving, pull over and park by the road shoulder. Escape with the key behind and leave the car unlocked.
9. You can get earthquake information on television and radio.

Wind Storms and Floods

The typhoon season brings wind storms and floods from early summer to autumn season. Pay attention to the weather information on televisions and radios, especially heavy rain around July (end of rainy season) and typhoons from summer to autumn.

※Confirm where escape shelters in the area are and also prepare emergency food supplies, flash light and portable radio set.
