There are more than 3000 sekibutsu in Mochizuki area including inscribed with stone figure or the letters, shapes of Hokoragata, maybe more including in the house or the cemetery.
Especially the Dousojin (guardians for the community) which has 140 stones. Stones are inscribed as noble graceful figure Dousojin like Man and Woman gods are listening wish seriously or putting Eboshi on their head and wearing clerical garment in Imperial court and drinking Sake.
There are 2 ‘very unusual Dousojin’ in Mochizuki area. One of them is the ‘ Katategasshou Dousojin’ in the Kumano Jinjya road in Fuse, has triangle Eboshi in the head, wear Monk’s habit if Buddha, both man and woman pray with just one hand. Eboshi is Shinto religion, Monk’s habit or one hand admire is Buddhism, looks all together however has stronger influence by Buddhism. This one hand pray Dousojin said that can not be found in any other place.
The other one is the Dousojin of the letters monument inscribed to the stone as ‘Tsujitachi gami’. Dousojin is the god to placed in the entrance of the village to protect from epidemic or evil sprit come into the village. Later became the god of the production or profess to wish children’s growth, however basically always put in the crossroad of the village and believed. This putting figure described in the letters is ‘Tsujitategami’Dousojin in Kyowa and it also rare. It stands in Tsuji and wish safety of the village people or people passing by.
